Kids aged 3 and up. We also teach adults.

Not necessarily. Each child is unique and will reach their milestones at their own pace.

Our Creative Kids class is a Moms & Tots style class where caregivers help guide their dancer. If your 2 year old is comfortable with following simple instructions from either you or the teacher then they might be ready to join!

If your child is not comfortable with following verbal or visual instructions yet they won’t benefit from being in the class.

Yes! We have an awesome adults-only dance fitness class called REBOOT!

This is a fast paced class where we focus on choreographed routines with a hip hop (and sometimes jazzy) vibe. This is a great way to reboot your energy, work up some sweat, and get a smile on your face!

We specialise in Hip Hop and Modern.

Our hip hop classes include foundational “old school” hip hop as well as modern street styles. Our students learn local and international styles of commercial and street dance.

Our modern classes include ballet foundation, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, afro-jazz and more. Our modern dancers are strong and versatile.

No. Acrobatics is an entirely separate industry and requires specific teaching qualifications and equipment. Unfortunately we do not have a qualified teacher right now.

We understand that dancers on social media like to incorporate acrobatic tricks into their routines. At Edge Dance Space we like to focus on pure dance, with an emphasis on building strength, flexibility, and the ability to switch effortlessly between the two without harming the spine or muscles.

The best way to find out is to try! You are most welcome to try out all the classes we offer for your child’s age group.

This may seem like a tough question, but the answer is actually very simple.

All of these styles have the same technical foundation and we use “Modern” as an umbrella term that refers to all of them.

Modern dance developed as a rebellion against the strictness of classical ballet. That’s why they all still look a bit ballet-ish. The difference is in the style, music, and application of foundational techniques.

The best way to explain it: it’s like writing the same language in different fonts.

  • Contemporary can be very experimental and interpretive, and encourages our dancers to explore different qualities of movement. It also emphasizes emotion and stories. Our dancers will try to express what the music makes them feel.
  • Jazz is a combination of strength and flexibility. Our Jazz dancers will wow you with their dynamic stage presence and will try to show off their personalities in fun and explosive ways.
  • Lyrical dancers will always tell a story with their movements. It is a combination of technique and style. Our lyrical dancers will use their skills to express the lyrics of the song.

Edge Dance Space is primarily a non-competitive studio. This means that we do not compete in competitions. Instead we like to focus on our yearly exams and our big annual showcase. These are completely optional  but we will always encourage our students to participate. We also have dedicated parent weeks every term where parents are allowed to observe the class.
